The film was nominated for several awards, including seven Oscars, with the best film, however, he did not win any awards, in part to compete with two other giants of the time: Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction.

At first he was offered the role of Tom Hanks, Tim Robbins but had already signed for the film Forrest Gump and Kevin Costner but also had his own project at hand Waterworld for me is undoubtedly his worst movie.

And the role played by Morgan Freeman was offered to Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, Paul Newman and Robert Redford. (wikipedia)
